The Need for Solutions

…because every child deserves a home

Did you know that:

  • The homeless are a part of our communities.

  • They “double-up” or “couch-surf” – moving from friend to friend.

  •  Our school districts are seeing homeless children regularly.

  • They live out of their cars.

  • They attend schools, worship, and work next to us.

  • Hamilton County has no homeless or domestic violence shelter.

  • Nearby shelters require families to split up by gender, so family cohesion is lost.

  • There was a 68% increase in homeless households in Hamilton County from 2016-2018 as reported by the county trustees and the school districts.  For perspective, in 2016, 581 households were homeless at some point in the year.  In 2017 that number was 1153.

  • In 2018, 1431 households were homeless at some point, representing 166 adults, 1617 children and 1783 total individuals.

  • Our schools reported 177 students were homeless at some point from March-May, 2019.
